Representation for Consumers Burned by Tabletop Fireplaces

In late 2024, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) urged consumers to immediately stop using and discard various tabletop fire pits and tabletop fireplace products due to severe burn injury and house fire risks. Now, people are taking action against the manufacturers to demand justice and compensation for their injuries and losses. Our award-winning product liability lawyers of Decof, Mega & Quinn, P.C. are here to help consumers  explore their legal options. If you were seriously injured by a defective tabletop fire pit product you could have the grounds to file a claim.

What You Should Know About the Unsafe Tabletop Fire Pits

Important information about the unsafe tabletop fire pits that the CPSC warned about includes:

  • All the unsafe tabletop fire pits use alcohol or similar alcohol-based substances as the fuel source.
  • At least two deaths have been caused by tabletop fire pits.
  • At least 60 burn injuries have been caused by tabletop fire pits.
  • Major retailers, including Amazon, have stopped selling tabletop fire pits after the CPSC warning.

Why are Tabletop Fire Pits Dangerous?

The alcohol-based fuel in most tabletop fire pits can cause invisible fires as the alcohol evaporates. When someone tries to light or relight the product, a “flame jet” can occur, which is a burst of fire that can be meters in length. Anyone in the path of the flame jet may suffer third-degree burns.

Also, if the fire reaches the main alcohol reservoir in the product, it can cause an “uncontrollable pool fire” (in the words of the CPSC) that burns at over 1,600 degrees Fahrenheit. Extinguishing such an intense fire is as difficult as it is dangerous and may cause a house fire.

The fire and burn hazards caused by tabletop fireplace products have been linked to 2 confirmed deaths and 60 confirmed injuries since 2019.

What Should You Do With Your Tabletop Fire Pit?

  • Call (401) 200-4059 to speak with a product liability attorney from Decof, Mega & Quinn, P.C..

Who Can File a Tabletop Fire Pit Lawsuit?

If you or a loved one were injured by a tabletop fire pit product, strict product liability laws likely allow you to file a claim against the product manufacturers and distributors. You can even consider legal action if you were burned by the defective product after the recall and warnings were announced. Depending on your case, you might be able to seek compensation for:

  • Medical treatment costs, including future care
  • Lost wages and reduced income-earning ability
  • Pain and suffering
