As of September 2017, when this verdict was returned, it is the largest medical malpractice verdict in Rhode Island history. The plaintiff had his right leg amputated, after he developed severe blood clots as a result of the doctors’ failure to place him on a blood thinner.   • $28 million jury verdict and judgment, at the time Rhode Island’s largest jury verdict, in a medical malpractice and wrongful death case.  This result was obtained on behalf of the family of a 32 year-old wife and mother who died as a result of the negligence of an emergency room physician who failed to recognize, diagnose and treat bacterial pneumonia.  O’Sullivan v.
