Daniel J. Schatz

Daniel J. Schatz has practiced with the firm of Decof & Decof, P.C. since 1994. He is admitted to the practice of law in the State of Rhode Island and Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and is admitted to practice before the United States District Court, District of Rhode Island; United States Court of Appeals, First Circuit; United States Court of Appeals, District of Columbia Circuit; and the United States Supreme Court.

Prior to practicing with Decof & Decof, P.C., Mr. Schatz served as a Special Assistant Attorney General in the Rhode Island Department of Attorney General with responsibility for environmental and civil litigation (1979 -1983); Legal Counsel to the Rhode Island Public Utilities Commission (1983 – 1988); and Associate Director and Chief Legal Counsel to the Rhode Department of Business Regulation (1992 – 1994). Previous private sector practice was with the law firm of Flanders + Medeiros, Inc. in Providence, Rhode Island doing environmental and commercial litigation.

Mr. Schatz graduated from Brown University with a degree (A.B. – Sc.B.) in Civil Engineering in 1971 (Tau Beta Pi); the University of Maine, School of Law (J.D.) in 1978; and Harvard University, John F. Kennedy School of Government (M.P.A.) in 1988.

Mr. Schatz focuses his practice in the areas of administrative and regulatory law, and medical malpractice, environmental, and commercial litigation. He also serves as Adjunct Professor at the Ralph Papitto School of Law at Roger Williams University teaching land use law.

Mr. Schatz is a member of the Rhode Island Bar Association, the Rode Island Trial Lawyers Association, The Association of Trial Lawyers of America, and serves on the Rhode Island Bar Association’s Environmental Law Subcommittee.
